Ocean's Eleven - Movie Review

Ocean's Eleven 2001 Poster.jpgMade back in 2001, "Ocean's Eleven" was based on the idea that there is more to crime than meets the eye. Huh. It takes actual work to rob someone of their hard work...Ironic!

Never having seen this movie before, the only thing I really had to compare it to was its' girl-based spin-off, "Ocean's 8." I enjoyed both movies, especially in their methods of story-telling. Though both movies revealed their overarching plans, there were still elements that they didn't reveal, so that they could seem masterful in the climax of the movie.

I was surprised to see Don Cheadle in the movie, as his name wasn't used in promotional material. I later found out that he wasn't included due to the fact that Cheadle thinks "it's embarrassing to get paid for that movie [Ocean's Eleven]" (2002). He had a blast filming the movie, and so he didn't fight to get onto the promotional material, which is kind of intriguing given his later roles in the movie industry. He's scored a pretty major role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as "War Machine." His accent was a little jarring, but I think that he does it well with it overall.

The film was witty, although it was unnecessarily crude at times; it dropped F-bombs quite unexpectedly, though it only occurred once or twice. I was shocked at how much enjoyment I got out of watching this movie.

I rate this movie a 6 out of 10.

It was funny, enjoyable to watch, kept my attention, and it has aged surprisingly well. I wouldn't recommend that everyone watch this movie due to the profane language used, but I think that it's worth watching, culturally speaking.

The story-telling was well executed, but it could have been better. Perhaps if plans went a little off the rails, I might have enjoyed the movie a little more. If the main characters made more mistakes, or if there were actual consequences for the inherently wrong-actions taken by the main characters, the characters could appear more relatable.
